The King Who Lost His Head
In 1649, King Charles I of England was executed after losing the English Civil War to Parliament’s forces led by Oliver Cromwell. His death marked the first time a reigning English monarch was tried and executed by his own people. The monarchy was briefly abolished, and England became a republic—until Charles’s son, Charles II, was restored to the throne eleven years later.

Fault Lines
Fault lines are fractures where Earth’s tectonic plates slip and grind, triggering earthquakes. But here’s the lesser-known part: some faults host slow earthquakes—movements so gradual you never feel them, yet they can quietly shift stress and influence when major quakes strike nearby.

Business & Politics
Sony vs Microsoft
The PlayStation 2 arrived in 2000, with the original Xbox following in 2001, kicking off the era of direct console competition. That rivalry continued in later generations: the PS3 and Xbox 360 launched just a year apart (2006 and 2005), while the PS4 and Xbox One released in the same year (2013). Each generation has kept the pattern—major consoles launching side-by-side, fighting for the same wave of players.
