History

The first known royalty

Long before the world experimented with “presidents,” the first leaders we can point to with hard evidence were kings—rulers of early city-states where government, religion, and war were tightly linked. One of the earliest historically attested royals is Enmebaragesi, king of Kish (in ancient Mesopotamia), described as the first historical personality of Mesopotamia, known not just from later tradition but from authentic inscriptions on vase fragments from his own time.

Did you know? The earliest “proof” of Enmebaragesi’s reign isn’t a grand monument—it’s everyday luxury objects: inscribed vase fragments that survived long enough to turn legend into verifiable history.

Where Dogs Actually Sweat

Dogs don’t sweat like humans. The only place they have true sweat glands is on their paw pads, which help with grip and provide minor cooling—most heat is released instead through panting.

Nelson Mandela: the leader who made reconciliation a strategy

When South Africa stood at the edge of violence in the early 1990s, Nelson Mandela helped steer the country toward a negotiated transition that replaced apartheid with democratic rule—without the mass reprisals many feared. In 1993, Mandela and F. W. de Klerk jointly received the Nobel Peace Prize for their role in peacefully ending apartheid and laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa.
