History

On this day….

March 26, 1997, 39 members of the Heaven's Gate cult committed mass suicide, believing that they would ascend to a higher plane of existence aboard a spacecraft following the comet Hale-Bopp. Led by Marshall Applewhite, the group laid down on the floor to die after ingesting a lethal mixture of phenobarbital (anti-seizure meds) and vodka.

The tragic event shocked the world, raising awareness of the dangers of religious extremism and mind control.

Why Fingerprints Are Unique

Fingerprints form before birth as a fetus’s skin grows and folds inside the womb. While genes set the general pattern—loops, whorls, or arches—the exact ridges are shaped by tiny, random forces like pressure, movement, and blood flow, making each print truly one of a kind.

An interesting fact: no two people have ever been found with the same fingerprints, not even identical twins—despite billions of prints collected worldwide.

Delete

Pressing delete doesn’t remove the data itself—it only tells your computer the space can be reused. The information stays on the drive until it’s overwritten, which is why deleted files can often be recovered using software.

The Hand of God

In the 1986 World Cup quarterfinals, Argentina’s Diego Maradona scored one of football’s most infamous goals against England—using his hand to punch the ball into the net.

The referees missed the call, and Maradona later credited it to “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God.” Argentina won the match and then went on to beat West Germany in the final.
