History
Joan of Arc — patron saint of France
The trial of Joan of Arc saw the teenage French heroine who claimed divine visions and led troops during the Hundred Years’ War captured and put on trial by an English-backed court. Accused of heresy and defying gender roles, she was found guilty and burned at the stake in 1431, aged just 19. Decades later, the trial was overturned, and she was ultimately declared a saint, transforming her from condemned heretic to national icon.

How many beats?
On average, the human heart beats about 2.5 to 3.5 billion times over a lifetime.
For someone living to around 80 years old:
Men: ~2.7 billion beats
Women: ~3.0 billion beats
Women tend to have slightly higher resting heart rates, which is why their total is typically higher.
Tech & Engineering
Offshore Giants
Modern offshore wind turbines are engineering giants, with the largest models standing over 250 metres tall—taller than many skyscrapers—and featuring blades longer than a football field.

The biggest concentrations are found in the North Sea, particularly off the coasts of the UK and Europe, where vast wind farms stretch across the horizon. In simple terms, a single large turbine can power thousands of homes, and entire offshore wind farms can generate enough electricity to supply millions—making them one of the fastest-growing sources of renewable energy.

The Geneva Conventions
Are a set of international agreements that establish the rules of war, aiming to protect those not actively fighting—such as civilians, medics, and prisoners of war. First adopted in 1864 and expanded after World War II, they form the backbone of modern humanitarian law. While often referenced in conflict, their core purpose is simple: even in war, there are limits.
Key rules include:
Civilians must not be targeted
Prisoners of war must be treated humanely (no torture or degrading treatment)
The wounded and sick must be cared for, regardless of side
Medical personnel, hospitals, and the Red Cross symbol must be protected
Weapons or tactics causing unnecessary suffering are prohibited
