Einstein, Almost a President

In 1952, Albert Einstein was offered the presidency of Israel after the death of its first president, Chaim Weizmann. Despite his global fame and deep ties to the Jewish community, Einstein politely declined, saying he lacked the “natural aptitude and experience to deal with people.” Instead, he continued his work in science, leaving behind one of the greatest “what ifs” in history.

Habitat 67 – Montreal, Canada

Built for the 1967 World’s Fair, Habitat 67 is one of the world’s most striking housing complexes. Designed by architect Moshe Safdie, it looks like a giant stack of Lego blocks—354 concrete cubes arranged in unique combinations, each with its own garden terrace. Originally meant to reimagine affordable urban living, it’s now one of Montreal’s most iconic (and priciest) addresses.

Alabama Fertility Clinics press pause

The Alabama supreme court’s recent decision ruled embryos are extrauterine children. The case arose out of an incident in 2020 at a Mobile fertility clinic, where multiple embryos were accidentally dropped and destroyed.

The courts ruling has led to an abrupt halt to fertility clinic operation in Alabama, due to the risk of being sued or charged for accidental damage/death. Furthermore, hopeful parents are unable to even ship their embryos out of the state, as embryo transport companies are also not willing to risk the liability associated with transporting them. The Phantom’s Chandelier

In The Phantom of the Opera, one of the most dramatic moments is the crashing chandelier—but it’s rooted in real history. In 1896, a counterweight from the grand chandelier at the Paris Opera House fell into the audience, tragically killing a spectator and inspiring Gaston Leroux’s famous story.

Entertainment

Stage Door Johnny

Stage Door Johnny was 19th-century slang for men who lingered outside theatre stage doors, hoping to court or catch a glimpse of actresses.
