History
The “Wow! Signal”
In 1977, a radio telescope in Ohio detected a powerful signal from deep space that lasted just 72 seconds. It was so unusual that astronomer Jerry Ehman wrote “Wow!” on the printout — giving the signal its name.
It has never been detected again, and its true origin remains unknown, making it one of the most intriguing mysteries in the search for extraterrestrial life.

Science
Marie Curie
Was a pioneering scientist who transformed our understanding of radioactivity — a term she helped define. Alongside her husband Pierre, she discovered the elements polonium and radium, unlocking new insights into atomic science at a time when the structure of the atom was still a mystery.
Curie made history as the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and remains the only person ever to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields: Physics (1903) and Chemistry (1911). Beyond the lab, she developed mobile X-ray units during World War I, helping treat wounded soldiers on the front lines.

The Airbus A380: The Giant of the Skies
Airbus A380 is the world’s largest passenger aircraft ever built. First introduced in 2007, this double-deck jet was designed to carry more people than any plane before it — up to 850 passengers in an all-economy layout (though most airlines configured it for around 500–600).

What makes the A380 remarkable isn’t just its size, but its engineering. It has a wingspan of nearly 80 metres, uses advanced composite materials to reduce weight, and is powered by four massive turbofan engines. Despite its scale, it was designed to be quieter and more fuel-efficient per passenger than many smaller aircraft at the time.

Figure Skating Scoring
Figure skating scoring can look subjective, but it follows a structured points system. Under the ISU (International Skating Union) Judging System, every element (jumps, spins, step sequences, lifts) has a base value for difficulty, and judges then apply a Grade of Execution (GOE) from -5 to +5 depending on quality—so a clean, high-quality element earns more than the base score, while mistakes reduce it. Judges also score the overall performance through Program Components (like skating skills, composition and presentation), which reward things such as flow, choreography and performance quality.

From Local Brewer to Global Giant
Asahi’s rise from a local Japanese brewer to a global drinks heavyweight is a strong example of mergers and acquisitions done well. Its international expansion accelerated in 2016 with the purchase of Peroni, Grolsch and Meantime, followed by major European brands such as Pilsner Urquell through AB InBev/SABMiller divestments.
In Australia, its 2020 acquisition of Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) significantly lifted its market share, with the ACCC approving the deal after selected brand divestments. Overall, Asahi shows how strategic takeovers can quickly build global scale, brand strength, and distribution power.
