Dr. Victor Chang (b. 1936 d. 1991)

Was a renowned Australian cardiothoracic surgeon and a pioneer in the field of heart transplantation.

The Mpemba effect is the observation that hot water can freeze faster than cold water. This can occur due to the following:

1. Evaporation of the hot water —> less water to freeze.

2. Convection currents —> hot water circulates more, allowing heat to escape more evenly.

3. Supercooling reduction —> cold water is more prone to supercooling (remaining liquid below freezing) than hot water.
